What Makes It a Collector Edition
A Collector Edition is a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport that GM built with two options together: Z25, the Collector Edition package, and 3LT, the top equipment group Z25 required. Without both codes on the car's GM build record, it isn't a Collector Edition, however it looks. GM planned 1,000 and built 935, numbered 001 to 940 (246–250 were never built).

What GM's order guide says
In GM's 2017 Corvette order guide, Z25 appears under additional options for the Grand Sport coupe (1YW07) and convertible (1YW67), and only in the 3LT column; it isn't offered with 1LT or 2LT. It was marked as a late-availability option, and it could not be combined with the painted exterior vents (EFX, EFY) or the personalized plaque (BV4), so no Collector Edition has those.
The order guide lists the interior as code 245; the build records and invoices of the cars themselves show 246, Tension Blue two-tone. The registry records what the build records show.
Telling a real one from a tribute
The looks can be copied, and they can be taken away. Gray paint, stripes, hash marks, black wheels and even a plaque have been added to ordinary Grand Sports, and some owners of real Collector Editions have removed the stripes. What can't be changed is GM's record of how the car was built:
- The build record shows Z25 and 3LT. Both codes are on GM's build record for the car, on the original window sticker and on the dealer invoice.
- The VIN is in the registry. Every Collector Edition's VIN ends in 300 followed by its plaque number: car 043 is …H5300043. Any part of the VIN finds the car.
- The plaque matches the VIN. The number on the dash plaque should be the car the VIN belongs to.
What buyers still chose
Body and transmission were open: 784 coupes and 151 convertibles, 735 automatics and 200 manuals. So were the Z07 Performance Package, ground effects, roof panels, caliper colors and dealer-installed accessories: every option and how many cars have it. How it all added up to the sticker price: How the price was built.
