The Collector Edition

Museum Delivery

For $990, option R8C let a buyer collect the new car at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, across the road from the plant that built it. 12 Collector Editions were ordered with R8C, and at least one more was delivered there after its order was placed.

What it included

On the window sticker, R8C reads Corvette Museum delivery, includes personalized plaque with Corvette Museum logo. The museum's 2017 delivery itinerary describes a day of about six hours:

  • A VIP tour of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, when the plant was open to tours.
  • A behind-the-scenes tour of the museum.
  • The car on display in the museum's delivery area on the day, with a webcam on it so family and friends could watch.
  • The delivery paperwork, then a hands-on orientation in the car.
  • A Museum Delivery decal on the driver's door jamb, with the owner's approval.

How it worked on paper

A museum delivery was still a dealer sale. GM invoiced the car to the selling dealer and shipped it to the museum instead of the dealership: car 043's invoice is charged to its dealer in Bowling Green and shipped to the National Corvette Museum. That is why, for some of these cars, GM's dealer lists name the museum where the dealer should be. The registry shows the selling dealer where it's known, and "Not recorded" where GM's data only names the museum. The window sticker names the dealer, and owners will be able to add it when owner updates open.
